Waqf (Amendment) Bill To Be Tabled In Rajya Sabha After Lok Sabha Approval

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill which cleared the Lok Sabha, is set to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday by the government.

The bill underwent over 12 hours of deliberation in the Lok Sabha, beginning at noon on Wednesday and concluding early Thursday.

The Lok Sabha passed it with 288 votes in favor and 232 against.

President’s Rule In Manipur Endorsed

Additionally, the Lower House adopted a resolution endorsing the President’s Rule in Manipur.

According to the Business List for Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will present the Statutory Resolution in the Rajya Sabha, seeking approval for the Proclamation issued by the President on 13 February 2025, under Article 356(1) concerning Manipur.

The Lok Sabha had earlier passed the resolution on President’s Rule in Manipur, receiving broad support despite criticism from some opposition leaders.

Shah asserted that the government had taken all necessary steps to restore peace in the state.

Minister Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani will present a statement on withdrawing funds from the Contingency Fund of India to service interest payments on Sovereign Guarantee Bonds (SGBs) issued by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, will also be up for consideration and passing in the Lok Sabha, with Minister Sarbananda Sonowal moving the motion.

The bill aims to regulate coastal shipping, promote trade, and enhance domestic participation, ensuring India’s preparedness with a robust coastal fleet for national security and commercial needs.

Additionally, Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu will introduce The Protection of Interests in Aircraft Objects Bill.

The proposed legislation seeks to safeguard interests in aircraft assets and implement the Cape Town Convention and its Protocol on International Interests in Mobile Equipment signed on 16 November 2001.

Furthermore, Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will update the Lok Sabha on the implementation of recommendations from the 10th Report of the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs regarding the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme.
