Voter Turnout Recorded At 8.10% In Delhi Assembly, Milkipur Observes 13.34% In Bypoll

The national capital recorded low voter turnout as it recorded 8.10 percent ballot turnout as of 9 AM across all 70 constituencies under the poll in a single phase. The highest poll turnout was registered by the east district of Delhi with 10.70 percent followed by the Southwest district with 9.34%

Polling for 70 assembly seats in Delhi and by-polls in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh began on Wednesday at 7:00 AM. Voting is taking place amid tight security across all constituencies.

In Delhi, key constituencies like New Delhi, Jangpura, Kalkaji, Okhla, Mustafabad, Bijwasan, Kasturba Nagar, Greater Kailash, and Patparganj are seeing intense competition in terms of voter turnout. The election is crucial for AAP, BJP, and Congress. AAP aims to secure a third consecutive term, while BJP seeks to reclaim power after nearly 27 years. Congress, once a dominant force, is hoping for a comeback after failing to win any seats in the last two elections.

Notably, AAP currently holds more than 60 of the 70 seats in the Delhi assembly. They are seeking re-election based on their previous term’s achievements. The New Delhi seat has turned into a high-profile three-way battle between AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s Parvesh Verma, and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit, the son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit. In Jangpura, AAP’s Manish Sisodia faces Congress’s Farhad Suri and BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah.

Voter Turnout In Uttar Pradesh & Tamil Nadu

Meanwhile, the Milkipur assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh recorded a 13.34% turnout as of 9 AM. The seat, reserved for Scheduled Castes, has 3,70,829 voters. The main contest is between Samajwadi Party’s Ajit Prasad and BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan.

In Tamil Nadu, the Erode (East) constituency saw a turnout of 10.95% by 9 AM.

A total of 699 candidates are contesting across the 70 Delhi assembly seats. ECI will declare the results on February 8.
