Violent Saturday In Delhi; Businessman Shot Dead, Man Dies From Stab Wounds

Saturday morning in Delhi was marked by two brutal incidents. A businessman was shot dead during his morning walk, and a man, who had been stabbed in a midnight brawl with his neighbors, succumbed to his injuries early Saturday.

In Shahdara’s Vishwas Nagar, gunfire rang out near the Yamuna Sports Complex when Sunil Jain (52), a local businessman, was returning home from his morning walk. Two unidentified assailants, riding a motorcycle, shot him multiple times. Jain was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was declared dead on arrival. Police recovered five to six bullet casings from the scene.

At 8:36 AM, a call was made to the Police Control Room reporting the shooting. Authorities confirmed that Jain, who owned a utensil shop, was the target. Investigations are ongoing, with police reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits. Although the motive is unclear, authorities suspect the attack was premeditated due to the number of shots fired.

Meanwhile, in Govindpuri, a violent altercation between two groups over the cleanliness of a shared toilet led to the stabbing of three men late Friday night. Sudheer, his brother Prem, and their friend Sagar were attacked with a kitchen knife. Sudheer later died of his injuries at AIIMS, while Prem and Sagar are being treated for their wounds. The police have detained three suspects, including a minor, in connection with the incident.

The rise in violent crime has raised concerns over public safety in the capital, with local authorities under pressure to act. These incidents are expected to fuel political debate, particularly as Delhi’s law enforcement is under the jurisdiction of the Union Home Ministry. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to use the rising crime rate as a key issue in the upcoming Assembly elections.
