Vikram Misri, a seasoned Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1989 batch, officially took over as India’s Foreign Secretary on Monday, succeeding Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed Misri to his new role, wishing him a successful tenure ahead.

Taking to X, Randhir Jaiswal, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson posted, “Shri Vikram Misri assumed charge as Foreign Secretary today. #TeamMEA extends a warm welcome to Foreign Secretary Misri and wishes him a successful tenure ahead.”

On 28 June, officials announced Misri’s appointment after Kwatra’s extended service ended on 14 July, following approval on 12 March.

In light of this transition, Misri’s tenure as Deputy National Security Advisor was also shortened.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed gratitude towards the outgoing Foreign Secretary, thanking Kwatra for his dedication and significant contributions to India’s foreign policy and national security.

With his extensive experience in international relations, Misri is likely to navigate the complexities of India’s foreign policy in an evolving global landscape.
