Indians Now More Nationalistic Than Ever Following Operation Sindoor: Vice-President Dhankhar

Vice-President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, declared on Tuesday that Indians are demonstrating nationalism like never before, attributing the shift in mindset to the recent military operation, Operation Sindoor.

He made these remarks during the inaugural session of the Rajya Sabha Internship Programme Phase 7, held at the Vice-President’s Enclave in New Delhi.

‘Strength Ensures Peace’ – Dhankhar Highlights Indigenous Defence Capabilities

Addressing the interns, Vice-President Dhankhar stressed the importance of indigenous strength in maintaining national security.

“War is best avoided from a position of strength. Peace is secured when you are ever ready for war. Strength comes not only from technological and conventional capabilities but also from the unity of the people,” he said.

Operation Sindoor: A Defining Moment For National Unity

Referring to Operation Sindoor—a precision military strike conducted by India in response to cross-border terrorism, Dhankhar noted its profound impact on public and political consciousness.

“The recent episode, Operation Sindoor, has changed our mindset massively. We are now nationalistic as never before,” he stated.

He praised the unified stance of Indian political delegations abroad, highlighting their collective efforts to project a message of peace and India’s zero tolerance for terrorism.

Call For Political Consensus On National Security

Dhankhar urged all political parties to prioritise national interests over partisan politics, especially on issues related to security and economic development.

“Like institutions, even political tribes have a moral duty to the national cause. On issues of national security and growth, all factions must come together. Sometimes, politics overshadows nationalism and security—this must change,” he appealed.

The Vice-President also underlined the primacy of the Indian Parliament, describing it as the sole constitutional platform that genuinely represents the will of the people.

“Parliament is more than a legislative body. It is the voice of 1.4 billion people. It holds the executive accountable and ensures transparency, accountability, and optimal performance—key fundamentals of governance,” he asserted.

He further emphasised Parliament’s dual role: as the ultimate authority for law-making and the institution responsible for holding the government to account.

‘Parliament Must Foster Dialogue And Debate’

Dhankhar concluded his address by reaffirming the role of Parliament as a platform for dialogue, debate, and discourse, vital for India’s democratic and developmental journey.

His speech reflected a growing sentiment within India’s political and defence circles that national unity, robust institutions, and unwavering commitment to security are essential pillars for sustaining peace and driving forward progress.
