Uttarakhand Police Rescues 17 Year Old Rape Victim; Issues Statement

On June 6, a 17-year-old girl went missing after visiting a local market in the Bareilly area. Three men are accused of kidnapping her and transporting her to Kashipur town in Uttarakhand, where they allegedly gang raped her. According to authorities, she was saved on Sunday, and three suspects were taken into custody.

The girl was acquainted with the principal suspect, Shah Alam (50), according to the police. Alam offered to drive her to a tailor’s shop in the market in his car while also giving her a tranquillizer. He later drove her to Kashipur, where he is accused of repeatedly gang-raped her alongside two other males, Irfan Khan Alias Babu (30) and Nadeem Qureshi (25).

The investigation of Rape went like this

The girl resides in a village under the Meerganj police station with her parents and older brother. On June 6, she departed her home at 10 am and didn’t come back until after sunset. Her relatives began searching for her out of concern and eventually discovered that she had been last seen with the principal suspect. Then, her brother reported her to the police. After spotting Alam conversing with the victim on CCTV footage during the initial inquiry, UP police were able to locate him. His phone number was monitored, and after a joint police operation by the states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, he was captured in Kashipur together with Babu and Qureshi.

The three accused were booked under sections 363 (abduction), 366 (abducting a woman to compel her marriage), 376-(2) (woman is raped by one or more in a group of persons) of the IPC and also under the Pocso Act.

Police issues statement

Additional SP (rural) Rajkumar Agarwal said, “The victim has revealed the names of all three accused in her statement, and her medical examination report also indicated that she was sexually assaulted. We will record her statement in court and ensure that strict action is taken against the accused.”

“The girl is a school dropout, and she is a minor as per her school records,” Agarwal added. Since the matter involved people from two different communities, local right-wing activists protested outside Meerganj police station on Sunday, demanding justice for the victim.
