Uttarakhand is set to witness a legislative session commencing on February 5, as announced by officials on Friday. While the agenda for the session is pending, the timing coincides with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s recent statement that an expert committee on a uniform civil code (UCC) would imminently present its draft report to the government.
The assembly speaker of Uttarakhand has officially called for a session starting February 5, according to Vidhan Sabha Secretary Incharge Hem Chandra Pant. The specific items on the agenda are slated to be determined during a meeting of the House’s business advisory committee.

In anticipation of this legislative development, Chief Minister Dhami, in his Republic Day address, informed the people of Uttarakhand that the five-member expert committee had successfully completed the draft of the UCC. He further assured that upon receiving the draft, a session of the state assembly would promptly be convened to initiate the implementation process.
Simultaneously, there is news of the government extending the tenure of the UCC drafting committee. Headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, the committee has been granted an additional 15 days. This extension serves as a strong indicator that the draft report on the UCC is nearing completion and will likely be submitted to the state government soon.
