An eatery worker was apprehended on Friday on charges of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl within his residential area, as stated by local law enforcement.
Reportedly, the harrowing incident occurred on August 16th when the young girl and her eleven-year-old brother were at home while their parents were at work, according to police sources.
Promptly after the occurrence, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Sector 24 police station, leading to an immediate investigation. The suspect had initially evaded authorities, but acting on a tip-off, he was apprehended near a Sector 22 school yesterday, stated a police representative.
The 18-year-old accused is employed at a food establishment in Noida and originates from the Aligarh district. He resides in the same vicinity as the girl and is familiar with her family, as he frequently visits their home, the official confirmed.
The FIR has been filed under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and under the clauses of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, reported the police.
The accused was presented in a local court and subsequently remanded to a 14-day judicial custody, the authorities added.
