US Vice President JD Vance Meets PM Modi In Delhi During First Official Visit To India

US Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance and their three children, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg.

The meeting took place ahead of the high-level Principals’ and delegation-level bilateral talks scheduled between the two leaders.

Prime Minister Modi warmly received the Vance family, which includes sons Ewan and Vivek, and their young daughter Mirabel.

In a gesture of cultural appreciation, the Vance children arrived in traditional Indian attire.

Ewan and Vivek wore blue and yellow kurtas, while three-year-old Mirabel wore an elegant Anarkali suit paired with an embroidered jacket.

Following the formal meeting, PM Modi is set to host the American Second Family for dinner.

Cultural Immersion Begins With Spiritual Visit

Earlier in the day, the Vance family began their Indian visit with a stop at the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Delhi.

There, they explored the temple’s intricate architecture and artistic beauty, gaining insight into its values of harmony, spirituality, and family.

This spiritual excursion marked their first engagement on Indian soil and set a tone of cultural reverence for the rest of the trip.

First Vice Presidential Visit In Over A Decade

Notably, this marks the first visit by a sitting American Vice President to India in 13 years.

The last such visit was in 2013, when Joe Biden came to India during his tenure as Vice President under President Barack Obama.

J.D. Vance’s visit is seen as a step towards strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, with planned engagements in Jaipur and Agra before the delegation returns to Washington on 24 April.

Personal Connect With India

Adding a personal layer to the visit, Second Lady Usha Vance shares Indian roots. Her parents originally hailed from Andhra Pradesh before migrating to the United States.

Despite being born and raised in the US, Usha Vance has maintained a deep connection to Indian culture.

She boasts an impressive academic background, with a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University and a master’s degree in philosophy from Cambridge University.

As the Vance family continues their India tour, their openness to cultural engagement and warm diplomatic gestures have set a positive tone for the ongoing talks and future cooperation between India and the United States.
