Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday opened the fourth edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show, or UPITS, in Greater Noida.
Speaking at the event, Shah highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s growing role in India’s defence production and said the BrahMos missiles manufactured in the state were causing concern in Pakistan. He referred to AK-203 assault rifles produced in Amethi, saying these weapons have strengthened the fight against Naxalites and terrorists.
Shah compared the current situation with the period when the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governed Uttar Pradesh. He claimed that illegal weapons, crime and mafia activities were widespread at that time.
The Minister said the political situation changed after the BJP came to power in the state in 2017, with Yogi Adityanath becoming Chief Minister.
According to him, the Yogi government has taken strong action against criminal networks and created a safer environment for businesses and investors. He further said Uttar Pradesh had moved from fear and crime to an investment hub driving India’s economic growth.
Shah credited this progress to the BJP’s ‘double-engine’ government and said the state can now aim to build a one-trillion-dollar economy.
UPITS 2026 is being held from September 25 to 29 at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida.
The five-day trade event has more than 2,400 exhibitors and participation from six partner nations: Austria, Japan, Russia, Singapore, Belarus and Vietnam.
Organisers expect around 1.5 lakh business buyers and visitors, 4.5 lakh general visitors and over 550 international buyers from 85 countries.
The exhibition is highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s One District, One Product and One District, One Cuisine programmes, showcasing the state’s diverse manufacturing, food and business sectors.
