On Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh police confiscated a truck in Noida that was transporting illicit liquor from Haryana to Madhya Pradesh, according to officials. A person from Madhya Pradesh was arrested, and liquor worth approximately Rs 35 lakh was allegedly seized from him.
Hridesh Katheria, Additional DCP (Central Noida), revealed that the truck, registered in Madhya Pradesh, was carrying a forged number plate from UP. Acting on a tip-off, officials from Sector 142 police station seized the truck. Upon inspection, they discovered 334 boxes of English liquor inside, valued at around Rs 35 lakh.
The liquor, comprising over 10,000 bottles, including pints, was intended for sale in Haryana and Chandigarh, according to Katheria. The driver, identified as Prakash (30) from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was arrested, and the truck was impounded. An FIR has been filed at the local Sector 142 police station under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Excise Act.
Uttar Pradesh strictly prohibits the sale or consumption of non-state liquor, and offenders can face legal consequences, including imprisonment and fines, as per officials’ statements.
