The Uttar Pradesh government plans to establish 58 Centers of Excellence at eight major institutions to enhance higher education standards. This initiative aims to elevate research, innovation, and teaching quality, making universities in the state more competitive globally. The government has allocated a budget of Rs 3.88 crore for the fiscal year 2024–25.
UP Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay announced the project, emphasizing the government’s commitment to preparing institutions to meet global benchmarks. He highlighted that these Centers of Excellence will provide students with new opportunities for research and technical expertise, improving the overall quality of education.
The initiative will equip selected universities with state-of-the-art research facilities, upgraded library services, and digital resources. Upadhyay stated that introducing project fellows will further encourage students to engage in research and innovation, enhancing their prospects in academia and industry.
The eight universities chosen for this initiative include Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly; Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur; Lucknow University; Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya; Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti Bhasha University, Lucknow; Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi; Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow; and Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur.
The government will closely monitor the implementation of the Centers of Excellence, ensuring institutions meet rising standards of excellence through regular progress reports.
