The encounter state of India, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed a very unusual incident when a member of the motorcycle thief gang was seen carrying a placard with an astonishing message for the CM of the state. The placard said, “Forgive Me, Yogi Ji”. The thief is known by his first name ‘Ankur’.
It is stated that he did the same to save himself from the encounter as the state has a record of encounters taking place now and then with suspected criminals. According to reports, there have been more than 9000 encounters after CM Yogi came into power. 160 accused were killed in the encounters that have taken place by now.
“The accused reached the police station on Wednesday with the village chief and members of his family, fearing an encounter. He also sought forgiveness and pledged that he would never commit any crime again. The criminal has been taken into custody and sent to jail. He is wanted in several cases, including attempted murder (IPC section 307) and loot (IPC section 390).” explained SHO Rojant Tyagi.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Khatauli), Ravi Shankar Mishra, stated, “While two members of the notorious gang were arrested on Tuesday, the third had managed to escape. We have recovered three bikes and illegal weapons from the accused. Further investigation is underway in the matter.”
As mentioned earlier, around 9000 encounters have taken place in the state in CM Yogi’s tenure. Due to this, the criminals are now afraid of Police and the Chief Minister. Undoubtedly, there are objections posed against the acts of the state government. Human Rights Activists condemn the actions to a great extent but the battle of guns is not coming to halt.
There are other states influenced to act in a similar manner, which might pose problems in the near future. Encounters surpass the boundaries of law and order which also puts a question mark on the Judicial System of the country.
