Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Prayagraj on Friday to inaugurate flats built for the poor on land confiscated from slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. According to the reports, he handed over the keys to as many as 76 beneficiaries. During the visit, CM Adityanath also inspected the newly-built flats and engaged in an interaction with the children on the site.
The housing complex comprises 76 flats in two blocks, a community hall and a park. The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) prepared a blueprint for the construction of homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in October 2021. Speaking of, each of these 41 square metre flats cost Rs 3.5 lakh.
The land on which these flats are built is located in the Lukerganj neighbourhood of Prayagraj. The UP Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for this housing project on a 173 sq m site on December 26, 2021. He allotted these flats to the poor people through a lottery system.
After obtaining the keys, a beneficiary expressed his joy and said, “It feels great. I could never have imagined that I would get my own house. Now nobody will tell me to leave from here…”
While speaking at the programme, PDA vice-chairman Arvind Chauhan said, “We had got the land seized from Atiq Ahmed in the city where he resided and also used to run his office.” Chauhan also mentioned that as per the government guidelines, the flats were distributed under the reservation policies for senior citizens, physically challenged people, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes.
He further added that each flat is furnished with contemporary amenities, including electricity, sewerage, a parking space, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a toilet and a balcony.
