Under The Guise Of Changing Gender,”Tantrik” Arrested In Killing Of Lesbian In UP

As per the information that came from the police authorities, A tantric and a woman have been arrested. They are accused for the killing of a 27 year old woman who was in love with another woman.  According to authorities, Ram Niwas, a tantrik, attracted Poonam Kumari, a resident of Shahjahanpur, with the promise of changing her gender.

ASP explains the killing matter

The 25-year-old Poonam and her girlfriend, Preeti Sagar, who lived in Lakhimpur Kheri, met while pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree and were in a relationship for a few months, according to Shahjahanpur’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) city, Sudhir Jaiswal.

“The Lakhimpur Kheri woman’s reluctance in getting married to a man despite her family’s multiple efforts, revealed her relationship status, and invited opposition from both the families who feared social stigma,” he added. Police have arrested Sagar under several charges, including murder and criminal conspiracy.

Amber Singh, the in-charge of the Mohammadi police station in Lakhimpur Kheri, claimed that the tantrik was in contact with Sagar’s mother and advised her that changing Kumari’s gender might help her wed Sagar.

He claimed that on April 18, Kumari was summoned for the purported ritual and left her home, which was located close to 50 kilometres from Lakhimpur Kheri.

Niwas has been taken into police custody. “He (tantrik) confessed to having strangulated Kumari after calling her at a deserted place on the pretext of performing a ritual to change her gender.” The ASP claimed that Niwas escaped after leaving the body on the banks of the Gomti in a wooded location. Police recovered 11 bones from near Sagar’s house and have sent it for forensic examination. In the FIR, Kumar accused Sagar, her mother Urmila and Niwas of murdering his sister.
