An FIR against three female students of a paramedical college in Udupi has been registered for allegedly recording a video of their fellow student in the college washroom. As per the sources, the college administration has also been implicated in the FIR which was filed at Malpe police station in Udupi. As per sources, the charges against them fall under sections 509, 204, 175, 34, and 66 (e) of the IT Act.
The three main accused have been identified as Shabhnaz, Alfiya, and Aleema. The police statement revealed that two separate suo motu cases have been registered concerning video recording incidents at the Netra Jyothi Institute of Allied Health Sciences. One case pertains to the act of recording the private video of a female student and subsequently deleting it. The three female students and the college administration are accused of this, and police have charged them with failing to produce details and evidence related to the incident, which could harm the victim’s reputation.
Moreover, a morphed version of the alleged incident was reportedly uploaded on the One India Kannada YouTube channel, and an individual named Kalu Singh Chawhan shared it on his Twitter account. As a result, a case has been registered for causing communal enmity and disturbing social harmony.
The three accused girl students have been suspended from the college due to the accusation of filming the video in the college washroom. The issue has gained attention in political circles, with the BJP announcing a state-wide protest demanding the arrest of the three Muslim students involved in recording a video of a Hindu girl.
Earlier, the police had urged the public not to believe rumours that girls from a particular community targeted a girl from another community and shared a video allegedly shot in the restroom.
