Two Transgender Arrested In Slipper Licking Row After Video Goes Viral

Ballia: Two transgender were arrested on Thursday for allegedly forcing a member of the community to lick a slipper, police said. A video of the event circulated on social media on Wednesday, showing one of the two transgender people being forced to kiss their slipper after spitting on it.

The two victims were also supposedly tonsured.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Faheem Qureshi said that Puja, a resident of Bibipur village, submitted a complaint alleging that on March 10, several persons forced Naina and Payal, both members of the transgender community, into a car when they were performing in Bahorwa village. The officer had previously stated that the encounter sprang from a debate about jurisdiction between two groups of transgender persons.

An FIR was filed against five members of the same group on Wednesday at the Ubhaon police station, he added.  “We have arrested Manish and Rahul Singh, both transgender, in connection with the case,” the Deputy SP stated, adding that three people remain at large. The police squad has rescued one of the victims, Payal, and searches for the other are ongoing, he added.
