Two Indian Nationals Killed, Several Injured In Attack In Sohar, Oman: MEA

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that an attack in Sohar, Oman, during the ongoing conflict in West Asia killed two Indian nationals and injured several others.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on the social media platform that the Indian mission in Oman is in contact with local authorities and the employer company and is providing assistance to those affected.

Taking to X, he posted, “We lost two Indian nationals today in an attack in Sohar, Oman in the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Several other Indian nationals were also injured. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. ”

“Our Mission in Oman is in touch with the local authorities as well as the employer company and is extending all possible assistance,” the post further read.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions and security concerns in parts of West Asia, where ongoing hostilities have affected several areas and raised concerns about the safety of foreign nationals working in the region.

Sohar, an industrial port city in Oman, hosts numerous industrial facilities and employs a large expatriate workforce, including many Indian nationals working across sectors.

India maintains a sizeable diaspora presence in Oman, with hundreds of thousands of Indians employed in construction, industry, services and trade.

The Indian embassy in Muscat regularly coordinates with Omani authorities and employers on matters concerning the welfare and safety of Indian workers.

Jaishankar Holds Talks With Iranian Counterpart

Earlier on Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held another phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss bilateral cooperation and BRICS matters, where India currently holds the chair, and Iran is a member.

This marked the fourth conversation between the two ministers amid the escalating crisis involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

The interaction followed Narendra Modi’s Thursday night meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to review the serious situation unfolding in West Asia.
