Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has stated that she will campaign in her Krishnanagar constituency on Thursday. Mahua Moitra stated that she decided to skip the ED summons, which required her presence at the ED office.
The 49-year-old former MP was summoned for questioning twice earlier by the central agency. However, she did not appear, citing official work.
On Wednesday, the probe agency issued a fresh summons to Mahua Moitra and Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani.
The agency wants to question Moitra in the case under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999. The ED investigators want to record her statement linked to the case.
Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on 8 December for unethical conduct. She has been renominated by her party from West Bengal’s Krishnanagar seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier on Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided her premises in connection with the cash-for-query case. The CBI is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the allegations against her on the reference from the Lokpal.
Moitra has been in controversy since BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused her of asking questions in the Lok Sabha. Dubey had also accused Moitra of compromising national security for monetary gains.
Meanwhile, Moitra has denied any wrongdoing and claimed she was being targeted as she raised questions about the deals of the Adani Group.
Moitra has also approached the Supreme Court, challenging her expulsion from the lower house of Parliament in connection with the allegations.
