In a devastating incident on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway near Jharsa Chowk, a woman and three children lost their lives, while four others sustained injuries when a speeding canter truck crashed into their stationary car. The local police reported the incident on Wednesday, revealing that the driver of the canter fled the scene following the accident, which occurred during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Fortunately, a minor girl narrowly escaped being hit by the canter, averting further tragedy. According to the police complaint, a family from Ghaziabad, consisting of two men, three women, and six children, was en route to Baba Mohan Ram Temple in Bhiwadi when they encountered a flat tire. As they parked the car on the side of the road to change the tire, all the women and children exited the vehicle, as recounted by the complainant, Umesh Pal.
Tragically, a speeding canter approached from behind, striking the group before fleeing the scene. Prompt assistance from bystanders enabled the injured individuals to be transported to the hospital. Pal, a resident of Bhopura village in Ghaziabad, revealed that the incident unfolded on the Jharsa flyover at 12:15 am.
An FIR has been registered against the unidentified canter driver under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rash driving, endangering the safety of others, causing hurt, and death by negligence. The Sector 40 Police Station is leading the investigation. The police have identified the deceased as 26-year-old Satakshi, 2-year-old Prisha, 9-month-old Pari, and 6-month-old Vidansh.
“We have handed over the bodies to the family after conducting the post-mortem examination and have taken the canter into custody. Our efforts are underway to apprehend the accused driver,” stated Surender Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 40 Police Station. The authorities are diligently working to bring the responsible party to justice while offering support to the grieving family in this tragic time.
