The BJP: Every other debate these days is about whether the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be from the Aam Aadmi Party or the Bhartiya Janta Party. But the actual battle is being waged by the permanent committee, not the mayor. Because this committee approves all financial choices made by the Municipal Corporation. In such a case, the winner becomes the true owner of the corporation.
Despite winning the mayoral race, “AAP” strategists are still working to discredit the BJP after destroying its stronghold in the Delhi Municipal Corporation polls. In terms of numbers, BJP is not seen winning anywhere.
However, “AAP” continues to assert that the BJP is attempting to undermine and instal its own mayor. However, the BJP’s plan is to take over the standing committee rather than the mayor’s position. Because this committee holds the key to the corporation’s authority.
In the Municipal Corporation, 134 councillors are members of the victorious Aam Aadmi Party. In addition, he is the owner of three Rajya Sabha representatives and 13 of the 14 Legislative Assembly nominees.
They now have a 150-person force as a result. While the BJP gained 105 councillors after winning 104 seats, including one of its rebel wins, Gajendra Daral. The mayoral election will also include the votes of its seven MPs and one MLA. They only have 113 members as a result.
In addition, there are two independents and nine Congressmen who serve as councillors. Even with their assistance, the number barely rises to 124. Being elected Bhartiya Janta Party’s mayor in such circumstances is only an idealised dish.
If Delhi BJP is to be believed, “AAP” is in uprising. For this reason, the AAP had to submit two more councillors, Asha Thakur and Jalaj Kumar, in addition to Shelly Oberoi and Aale Mohammad, who were already the party’s approved candidates for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor. In the event that any of them revolt, BJP stands to gain. However, the BJP does not want him to be appointed mayor this time. BJP views the position of mayor as a crown made of thorns.
The mayor, however, represents the ruling party in the municipal corporation. However, all significant financial decisions for the organisation must be made by the standing committee.
Taking control of the permanent committee in such a scenario entails obtaining the key to the municipal corporation’s lock. There are 18 members altogether on this body, with six chosen from Corporation House and one from each of the 12 Corporation Zones.
Three members of “AAP” and two members of the BJP are guaranteed to win in the corporation house based on the strength of the numbers. BJP has candidates in three seats whereas “AAP” has four candidates. The scenario might be quite fascinating if the BJP wins all three seats.
The BJP has won the majority in the Shahdara North, Shahdara South, Keshav Puram, and Najafgarh zones when it comes to the results of the corporation election.
Consequently, only BJP members will serve as this institution’s president and standing committee chairman. While the BJP and AAP are competing in eight zones. Three of these zones must go BJP’s way for the situation to change.
The 10 alderman selected by the Lieutenant Governor bear full accountability for it. In Civil Lines, Narela, and Central Zone, the BJP will triumph if these alderman are elected.
