J&K: Terrorist Killed In Kupwara; Search Operation Continues In Bandipora

A terrorist was killed on Wednesday in a fierce encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Lolab region of Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir.

The gunfight took place in the early hours of the morning, as security forces launched an operation against terrorists suspected to be hiding in the area.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the slain terrorist, and the operation is ongoing, officials said.

In a separate operation, security forces continued their search for the second consecutive day in the Ketsun forest area of Bandipora district, following a deadly encounter on Tuesday that resulted in the death of one terrorist and the injury of two security personnel.

The search operation has been intensified, with additional reinforcements deployed to track down any remaining terrorists.

The recent spate of terrorist activities comes amid a heightened security situation in the region, particularly after the installation of an elected government in Jammu & Kashmir.

Intelligence sources suggest that terrorists, allegedly backed by handlers across the border in Pakistan, are increasingly targeting the region in response to the peaceful and participatory elections held in J&K, including both the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

Officials speculate that the perceived frustration of these terror groups is contributing to the uptick in violence.

Escalation Of Terrorist Activities & Rising Security Concerns

Notable incidents have occurred in recent weeks, including the death of a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Usman Bhai alias Chota Waleed, in a gunfight in the Khanyar area of Srinagar on 2 November.

The clash also left two local police officers and two CRPF personnel wounded.

Earlier last month, terrorists killed six non-local workers and a local doctor in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal, targeting a crucial infrastructure project aimed at improving regional connectivity and generating employment.

This attack led to terrorists killing three army soldiers and two porters in Gulmarg’s Botapathri area in Baramulla.

In addition to these assaults, terrorists have targeted non-local workers in the Shopian and Budgam districts, though these individuals narrowly escaped with minor injuries.

The growing frequency of attacks, including those in areas previously thought to be relatively safe from militancy, has raised concerns among security forces.

The security situation has become increasingly volatile, as the rise in terrorist activities disrupts the fragile peace established by the forces in recent years.

Taking a strong stance, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has issued firm directives to security agencies, ordering them to take decisive action against terrorists and their supporters, including overground workers (OGWs) who assist in their activities.

The Lt Governor also announced plans to demolish any properties harboring terrorists as part of the crackdown on militancy.
