Fear grips Mahsi Tehsil in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district as wolves wreak havoc on local villages. The relentless attacks have left residents terrified, with many staying awake for 49 consecutive nights to avoid becoming prey.
Villagers, armed with sticks and homemade weapons, are patrolling the area to prevent further wolf attacks. Deployed personnel have advised everyone to sleep indoors and are taking strict action to ensure compliance. “We are going door to door, instructing people to stay inside for their safety,” said one of the guards.
The terror began when a pack of six wolves started attacking 50 villages in the region. While the forest department has captured four wolves, two remain on the loose. These predators have claimed the lives of 10 children and one woman, injuring 51 others in brutal attacks.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed authorities to act swiftly against the wolf and leopard attacks plaguing certain areas of the state. He emphasized the need to capture these animals and raise public awareness about safety measures.
In response, the Forest Minister has deployed senior officers to conflict zones like Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur, Pilibhit, and Bijnor. Joint patrolling between departments has increased, and rural areas facing lighting issues are receiving additional lighting to improve safety.
Efforts to capture the remaining wolves continue as villagers remain on high alert, fearing for their lives.
