Tejashwi Yadav Battles BJP’s Satish Kumar In High-Voltage Raghopur Contest As Counting Tightens

RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav is fighting the BJP in Raghopur.

The contest is fierce and seesawing in his family’s traditional stronghold as vote counting intensifies in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

Early trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) show Tejashwi regaining the lead over Satish Kumar Yadav. The margin continues to shift with every round of counting.

Tejashwi began counting day with strong confidence. He declared that the INDIA bloc was ‘going to win.’

He insisted that ‘a change is about to come,’ signalling his belief that Bihar would back the opposition.

Tejashwi Yadav addressed supporters alongside his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and sister, Misa Bharti, projecting optimism even as vote gaps tightened.

The Raghopur contest quickly turned volatile. Tejashwi initially held a lead of 916 votes.

By the fourth round, Satish Kumar surged ahead by more than 17,500 votes, according to ECI data. The dramatic swings triggered tension within both the RJD and BJP camps.

Political observers say Raghopur holds deep symbolic value for the Yadav family. The BJP has invested heavily in challenging that legacy through an aggressive, targeted campaign.

Analysts argue that a victory in Raghopur would strengthen Tejashwi’s political standing and reaffirm the Yadav family’s continuing influence in Bihar’s electoral landscape.

However, slipping behind in his home turf could significantly weaken his push to lead the INDIA alliance to power.

Satish Kumar’s challenge is not new. He defeated Tejashwi’s mother and former chief minister Rabri Devi in the 2010 Assembly polls. His renewed presence in Raghopur has strengthened the BJP’s bid to flip the seat.

Jan Suraaj Party candidate Chanchal Kumar also joined the contest, but early figures show he is trailing far behind.

For now, Raghopur remains one of Bihar’s most intense battlegrounds, carrying layers of political symbolism, generational rivalry, and strategic importance.

Whether Tejashwi secures a decisive win or loses to the BJP will shape not only his leadership ambitions but also the future trajectory of the Mahagathbandhan in the state.
