Sushma Swaraj’s Life Continues To Inspire Generations: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday paid tribute to former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on her death anniversary, remembering her as an inspiring orator and a leader whose simplicity, discipline and dedication to public service left a lasting impact on the nation.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “On the death anniversary of Ojasvi orator, epitome of gentleness and simplicity, Sushma Swaraj ji, I pay my respects to her.”

The Minister said Sushma Swaraj performed every responsibility entrusted to her, from the party organisation to the government, with excellence, driven by discipline, diligence and an indomitable spirit.

Shah also recalled her tenure as External Affairs Minister, saying she connected the Ministry of External Affairs with ordinary citizens through her simple lifestyle and compassionate approach. He added that her work and commitment to public service would always remain memorable.

Sushma Swaraj, who served as India’s External Affairs Minister from 2014 to 2019 in the first Narendra Modi government, was widely recognised for making the Ministry more accessible and responsive, particularly in assisting Indians stranded or facing difficulties abroad through prompt intervention.

A senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Sushma Swaraj also served as the Chief Minister of Delhi, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Health Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. She became Haryana’s youngest Cabinet Minister at the age of 25 and later became the second woman to serve as India’s External Affairs Minister after Indira Gandhi.

Sushma Swaraj passed away on August 6, 2019, after suffering a cardiac arrest at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

The government posthumously honoured her with the Padma Vibhushan in 2020 for her contributions to public affairs.
