Sonia Gandhi ‘Absolutely Stable’, Responding Well To Treatment: Sir Ganga Ram Hospital

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is ‘absolutely stable’ and responding well to treatment, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said in a medical bulletin issued on Tuesday.

The hospital said doctors admitted Sonia Gandhi around 10 PM on Monday after she experienced respiratory discomfort.

Following a detailed medical examination, the team diagnosed a mild exacerbation of her bronchial asthma, triggered by cold weather and the prevailing air pollution in the national capital.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Chairman Dr Ajay Swaroop said doctors admitted her as a precautionary measure to closely observe her condition and administer appropriate treatment.

“At present, her condition is absolutely stable. She is responding well to treatment and is being managed with antibiotics and other supportive medications,” the hospital said in its statement.

The medical team continues to closely monitor her vital parameters to ensure a steady recovery.

Discharge Decision Soon

According to the hospital, the treating physicians will decide on her discharge based on her clinical progress.

“A decision regarding her discharge is likely within the next day or two,” the statement added, offering reassurance to party leaders and supporters following reports of her hospitalisation late on Monday night.

Sonia Gandhi, who turned 79 in December, remained active in party affairs in recent weeks. She attended the 140th Foundation Day celebrations of the Congress party on December 28, where leaders held a flag-hoisting ceremony at Indira Bhavan in New Delhi.

A day earlier, on December 27, she also participated in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the same venue.

During the meeting, the CWC unanimously resolved to oppose what it described as a ‘conspiracy to turn rights into charity’, raising slogans of ‘Jai Samvidhan – Jai Hind’.

In December, Sonia Gandhi also issued a strong statement criticising the Central government over the passage of the VB-G RAM G Bill in Parliament.

She accused the government of weakening the rights-based legislative framework by proposing changes to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and other key laws.

The hospital’s latest update has eased concerns over her health, with party leaders and supporters expressing relief as doctors confirm her steady recovery.
