Sonam Raghuvanshi Confesses To Husband’s Murder During Meghalaya Honeymoon: Sources

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main suspect in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has confessed to planning and facilitating the crime, according to sources from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday.

The confession reportedly came during an interrogation session conducted by the SIT earlier in the day.

Officials from the Meghalaya Police also recorded her formal statement, which confirmed her direct involvement in the killing.

All five accused – Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged partner Raj Kushwaha, and three others identified as Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan – were produced in a Shillong court following thorough questioning.

Police revealed that the three alleged contract killers – Akash, Anand, and Vikash – had travelled separately from Indore to Shillong to avoid suspicion.

Investigators were able to trace their movements using CCTV footage, train bookings, and Aadhaar card copies, allowing authorities to establish their identities and route.

According to officials, the suspects joined the couple during a trek on 23 May while posing as tourists.

Local guide Albert Pde told police he had offered help to the group, which they declined. He added that they spoke in Hindi and chose a difficult and secluded trail, avoiding the commonly visited Double Decker Living Root Bridge area.

Sonam surrendered at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, early Monday.

Her surrender came after days of coordinated action by police forces in Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Investigators said she conspired to kill her husband by hiring contract killers while on their honeymoon.

Police arrested the remaining suspects during raids across Madhya Pradesh.
