Sonam Raghuvanshi Brought To Shillong For Crime Scene Recreation In Honeymoon Murder Case

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, arrived at Guwahati airport late Tuesday night under heavy security.

Other accused individuals in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case accompanied her, all escorted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police.

To avoid media attention, officials discreetly moved Sonam out of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport through the cargo gate.

The SIT team then proceeded towards Shillong with the accused in custody.

According to police officials, all accused will presented before a local court on Wednesday.

The SIT is also preparing to recreate the crime scene with the involvement of Sonam and others.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem informed that they have secured transit remands – six days for those apprehended in Madhya Pradesh and three days for those held in Uttar Pradesh.

He further added that Sonam reached Shillong on Tuesday night, and the Meghalaya Police’s Indore team will travel on Wednesday morning.

“After various levels of examination and completion of necessary formalities, all the accused would be taken to the crime spot for reconstruction of the crime,” the district police chief said, noting the operation has been titled ‘Operation Honeymoon’.

Chargesheet in progress

The police are compiling a comprehensive case against the suspects and expect to file a chargesheet soon, citing strong evidence. Sonam surrendered at Nanganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and arrested by the SIT on Monday.

Meanwhile, another SIT team is conducting preliminary investigations in Indore.

This team will bring in four more accused — Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), and Anand Singh Kurmi (23) — to Shillong on Wednesday.

A senior police official noted that they have not yet determined the duration of custody to seek from the court.

Following the discovery of Raja Raghuvanshi’s decomposed body on 2 June, the Meghalaya Police formed an SIT and launched an intensive probe.

Two police teams dispatched to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh within a week.

The police official noted, “With the support of the police in the two states, we were able to arrest all the accused involved in the pre-planned crime.”

Raja and Sonam had married on 11 May and traveled to Shillong on May 20 for their honeymoon.
