Soldierathon Marathon To Celebrate India’s Victory And Honor Brave Soldiers

The Soldierathon marathon will be held on 15 December 2024 at Central Park, Naya Raipur, to mark India’s historic victory and honor the nation’s brave soldiers. Organized in collaboration with Fitistan-Ek Fit India, the Chhattisgarh and Odisha Sub-Area of the Indian Army, and the Chhattisgarh State Government, the marathon will take place on the eve of Vijay Diwas.

Soldierathon: A Tradition of Tribute

The Soldierathon, the largest marathon dedicated to Indian soldiers, was initiated by Major Dr. Surendra Poonia (VSM) under the guidance of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. After successful events in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Gangtok, the marathon will now be held in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The event honors Indian soldiers and supports the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre in Pune, which aids in the rehabilitation of injured soldiers.

A Special Experience for Participants

This marathon provides a unique opportunity for citizens to run alongside Indian Army soldiers, symbolizing national pride and unity. Registrations closed on 8 December 2024. Participants will receive a special runner kit, which includes:

  • Dry-fit T-shirt
  • Achiever medal
  • Breakfast
  • Refreshment stations
  • Timed race certificate (for 21K and 10K) and participation certificate (for 5K)
  • Gift bag
  • Medical facility
  • Free event photograph

Race Categories and Age Groups

The marathon offers several categories based on age and distance:

  • 21K (timed): 16+ years
  • 10K (timed): 14+ years
  • 5K (run/walk): 8+ years
  • 3K (run/walk): 6+ years

Ideal Route for Runners

General VK Singh, Patron of Soldierathon, praised the Chhattisgarh government and the Naya Raipur Development Authority for providing a pollution-free and traffic-free marathon route. He described it as an ideal location for the event, which is expected to attract participants from across India.

Promoting Fitness and Unity

The event aims to raise awareness under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Movement and to honor the courage of Indian soldiers. It will strengthen the bond between the Army and the local community. Brigadier Aman Anand (VSM), Commander of the Chhattisgarh and Odisha Sub Area, invited school and college students to participate and draw inspiration from the soldiers.

Dinner with Eminent Personalities

On 14 December 2024, a dinner will be held at Mayfair Lake Resort in Naya Raipur at 7 pm. The dinner will be attended by notable figures, including former Army Chief General VK Singh, Bharat Express CMD and Editor-in-Chief Upendra Rai, and other distinguished guests.
