SIR Exercise: ECI Nears Completion Of Phase II With 99.94% Elector Forms Distributed

SIR Exercise: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made substantial progress in Phase II of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with near-total distribution and digitisation of Elector-specific Enumeration Forms (EFs) across most states and Union Territories.

The enumeration phase, which began on November 4, is scheduled to conclude on December 11. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by recognised political parties are leading the verification and updating process.

According to the ECI’s daily bulletin, Lakshadweep, Goa, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands have achieved 100% distribution of EFs.

Rajasthan, except for the 193-Anta Assembly Constituency, where revision has been postponed due to a bye-election, also reported complete distribution.

Other states showed high distribution figures, with Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh at 99.99%, and Puducherry at 99.98%. Uttar Pradesh, home to India’s largest electorate of over 15.44 crore, achieved 99.94% distribution.

In total, 50.94 crore forms have been distributed across the 12 listed states and UTs, covering 99.94% of electors.

On the digitisation front, Lakshadweep and Rajasthan have completed 100%, while Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh follow closely at 99.89% and 99.83%, respectively.

West Bengal recorded 99.54%, Gujarat 99.04%, Tamil Nadu 99%, and Kerala 96.89%. Uttar Pradesh reported 95.72% digitisation.

The ECI noted that the digitised data also accounts for entries marked absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicate.

To maintain verification pace, the Commission has urged political parties to appoint additional BLAs as needed. Furthermore, Kerala’s submission deadline has been extended to December 18 to allow citizens sufficient time to complete their forms.
