The three-day International Sikh Youth Symposium, organized by the Sikh Youth Alliance of North America (SYANA) and held in the gorgeous city of Charlotte, North Carolina, was a celebration of Sikhism. This conference, which was held in the prestigious Gurdwara Sahib Charlotte, drew 60 eager attendees from both the United States and Canada.
The International Sikh Youth Symposium, which has origins that go back to 2000, has developed into a cherished custom. This event, which is being spearheaded by Kuldeep Singh, the national convener of the Symposium and SYANA, is a sign of progress for Sikh youngsters in North America. The main goal of the symposium is to develop young Sikhs’ communication abilities by boosting their abilities in written and verbal expression, public speaking, and oral articulation. In addition to polishing these priceless abilities, the symposium sparks a thorough investigation of Sikh history and philosophy, fostering a relationship with the core of the Sikh faith.
Kuldeep Singh elaborated on the symposium’s layout, noting that it provides a stage for people between the ages of 6 and 22 to demonstrate their oratory and intellectual prowess. Three progressive tiers—local, regional, and international—make up the event’s development. Local competitions are held in a variety of North American cities as the journey’s first steps. The responsibility then shifts to the state level, where 13 areas from throughout the United States and Canada converse in a cordial but competitive manner. The world stage, which graces August every year, represents the pinnacle of this voyage.
Five different age groups of participants each receive specialized reading materials. As they delve into the texts and react to three challenging questions, they will have an immersive educational experience. Their brilliant statements, which range between 6 and 7 minutes apiece, are built on the foundation of these responses. The fifth group participates in passionate debates centered on an annual theme while the first four groups prepare individual speeches.
