Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi Reacts To Kathua Incident, Draws Comparison With Tripta Tyagi

Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP, remarked on the Kathua incident on Sunday. In Kathua, a teacher at a government school was detained after reportedly beating a class 10 student for allegedly writing “Jai Shri Ram” on the chalkboard. “This hatred will drown everyone! This Muslim teacher is also full of hatred like Tripta Tyagi of Uttar Pradesh. What is the fault of these children that they are being punished?” Priyanka Chaturvedi said.

The Kathua incident

The Government Higher Secondary School (Bani) is where the incident took place. Farooq Ahmed, a teacher at the school, was reportedly detained on Saturday. While the school’s principal, who is accused of physically abusing the youngster in connection with the incident, has fled. “The principal is absconding and a search is going on to arrest him, while further investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said.

Complaint lodged

Kuldeep Singh, the student’s father, filed a complaint on August 25 alleging that Farooq Ahmed, a lecturer at Govt. Higher Secondary School Bani, and Mohd Hafiz, the school’s principal, had assaulted his son. An accusation was filed against the defendant at P/S Bani in response to the complaint. It was under sections 323, 342, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Similar case from UP’s Muzaffarnagar

The event happened not long after there was a significant uproar regarding a video that was made at the Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Teacher Tripta Tyagi was filmed requesting repeatedly from Hindu students to hit their Muslim classmate. It was after the latter allegedly “failed to do homework for the past 2 months.” The instructor said that the video was inaccurate because she merely performed her job as a teacher and had no ill intent, but she was unable to physically hit the Muslim child due to her disability.
