In a deeply distressing incident, police discovered seven members of a single family dead inside a car parked near a house in Sector 27, Panchkula, Haryana.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the family, originally from Dehradun in Uttarakhand, allegedly died by suicide due to financial distress.
The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Praveen Mittal, his wife, parents, and their three children—two daughters aged 12 and 13, and a 14-year-old son.
The family had travelled to Panchkula to attend a spiritual programme at Bageshwar Dham and was reportedly en route back to Dehradun when the tragedy occurred.
According to initial reports, the family was looking for a hotel in Sector 27 on Sunday night after attending the five-day Hanuman Katha event.
At some point during this time, they allegedly consumed poison while sitting in their vehicle.
Local residents noticed the family appearing unwell inside the parked car and promptly alerted the police.
Law enforcement officials rushed to the scene and forced open the car doors in an effort to save the unconscious occupants.
Emergency responders immediately transported all seven individuals to nearby medical facilities—a private hospital and a civil hospital—where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
During a preliminary search of the vehicle, police discovered a suicide note, reportedly penned by Praveen Mittal.
The note cited severe financial pressure and mounting debts as the driving reasons behind the decision to end their lives.
The letter is currently being analysed by forensic experts to confirm its authenticity and context.
DCP Himadri Kaushik stated, “It appears to be a case of suicide based on our initial findings. The forensic team is on site collecting samples and evidence to aid in the investigation.”
The police are currently piecing together the timeline of events and have registered a case.
DCP Law and Order Amit Dahiya, who also reached the location, confirmed that the police have launched an in-depth investigation and are meticulously examining all forensic evidence.
Sources have revealed that Praveen Mittal had been grappling with significant debt for an extended period, which may have led to the family’s tragic decision.
Authorities are in contact with the family’s relatives and have initiated procedures for the post-mortem and last rites.
The incident has sent shockwaves through both the local community and the family’s hometown in Dehradun, raising urgent questions about mental health and financial support systems.
