A man, aged 39, has been apprehended in Mumbai on charges of molesting more than 20 women throughout this year. According to law enforcement, the individual portrayed himself as an acquaintance of the victims’ male relatives, and persuaded them into accepting rides on his motorcycle under the pretext of dropping them off at their residences.
The arrested individual, identified as Balu Pandurang Khaire, hails from the Sion-Koliwada locality. As per the reports, he was arrested in Diva on a Wednesday.
Khaire’s reportedly entailed driving the victims to isolated locations, where he subjected them to molestation. In the midst of their distress, he would abscond with their personal belongings, including mobile phones and cash. This pattern has resulted in at least 22 instances of molestation attributed to the accused.
Prompted by a complaint lodged on August 2 by one victim who recounted being offered a lift by the perpetrator, police initiated a trap to capture Khaire. The incident in question involved him taking her to a building in Bandra (East) where the molestation occurred.

Following an intensive hour-long pursuit within a mangrove area in Diva, law enforcement succeeded in apprehending Khaire, according to a statement from an official at the Nirmal Nagar police station. During subsequent questioning, the accused admitted to employing the same tactics in each of the 22 incidents of molestation and robbery.
It appears that only one victim had come forward prior to this, initiating the investigation. The police employed CCTV footage analysis from the vicinity to identify Khaire, further corroborated by his motorcycle’s registration details.
A police spokesperson revealed, “Khaire used to win the confidence of his target with his sweet talk and introduce himself as their family friend. He then offered them a lift to drop them at their workplace or home. On the way, he would molest them.”
