Security To Prevent Further Protests By Job Aspirants In Hydrabad

To stop the protest by job aspirants at the Ashok Nagar crossroads in Hyderabad, where they are demanding a postponement of the District Selection Committee (DSC) tests and a postponement of the schedule for the Group II and Group III exams, police have increased security there.

Hundreds of job seekers organized rallies in the neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday nights. Later heavy police presence was observed there.

Numerous police cars were observed cruising Ashok Nagar, Chikkadpally, and the environs. Police will probably block off specific roads in order to prevent protesters from congregating.

The protest on Saturday night had raised tensions in the neighborhood.

Protestors who held placards and chanted slogans critical of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had called for the exam to be rescheduled. As they yelled anti-chief minister and anti-ruling party slogans, the job seekers squatted on the street. Traffic bottlenecks at Ashok Nagar, RTC Crossroads, Chikkadpally, and the adjacent regions were caused by the protest.

As there isn’t enough time for preparation between tests, the candidates are asking for the exams to be postponed. The Group II exam is set for August 7 and 8, while the DSC exams, which are required for hiring instructors in public schools, are scheduled from July 18 to August 5. Before the Assembly elections in November of last year, a large-scale protest by unemployed youth and job seekers took place in Ashok Nagar in response to the death of a student who was preparing for a competitive exam. The student’s death was purportedly caused by the examinations being postponed owing to a paper leak.

The protest against the then-BRS administration was sponsored by the Congress, the BJP, and their student organizations. This time, the BJP and BRS are supporting the protest against Congress.
