The Supreme Court has directed IMA President Dr. R.V. Ashokan to submit a legible copy of 20 editions of The Hindu containing his apology. The bench, led by Justice Hima Kohli, noted that the copy filed had unreadable small fonts. The court ordered the submission within a week. This comes after earlier dissatisfaction over the published apology.
In a previous hearing, the court had rebuked Dr. Ashokan for his critical remarks against the judiciary. Justice Hima Kohli expressed disappointment, emphasizing that they expected more responsibility. Justice Amanullah questioned the sudden behavior of the IMA President and warned against expressing opinions against the court in the press. Dr. Ashokan later issued an unconditional apology.
The Supreme Court is currently hearing a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in 2022. The petition alleges that Patanjali and yoga guru Ramdev ran campaigns discrediting COVID vaccines and modern medicine. The court condemned the misleading advertisements promoting Patanjali products, which have since been banned but remain online.
