Satya Niketan Collapse: PG Operator Taken Into Custody As Police Probe Deepens

Delhi Police have taken PG operator Sudhanshu into custody in connection with the building collapse in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan, which resulted in seven deaths.

Investigators brought labour contractor Sanoj and Mahesh, the son of landlord Hariram Gupta, to RK Puram Police Station for medical examinations.

Police sources said officials would release further information after completing the necessary procedures.

During his police remand, Mahesh reportedly told investigators that his parents leased the property to business partners Shubham Tyagi and Sudhanshu in August 2025.

The two operators subsequently ran the premises as a boys’ Paying Guest facility under the name ‘Hostel Daze’.

Police said Mahesh looked after maintenance work for his parents, Urmila, 75, and her retired husband Hariram, 81.

Authorities have placed the elderly couple in 14-day judicial custody.

Police have arrested labour contractor Sanoj, who allegedly supervised renovation work inside the basement.

Officers apprehended Sanoj in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, and brought him to Delhi for further questioning. During preliminary questioning, he reportedly told investigators that workers were undertaking repairs in the basement when the structure came down.

Police found that waste had reportedly remained on the basement floor for eight to 10 days during the rainy season.

The MCD has begun demolishing the building beside the collapsed PG after authorities classified it as dangerous.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed the civic agency to act against the dilapidated structure. The government stepped up measures following the tragedy.

The five-storey ‘Hostel Daze’ building housed several students when it collapsed at around 1:30 PM on September 6, killing seven people.

After the incident, the MCD demolished seven properties and sealed two structures over unauthorised construction.

The civic body issued 26 show-cause notices. It further issued four sealing notices and 12 demolition orders as part of its intensified enforcement campaign.
