External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday welcomed Foreign Ministers and senior diplomats from BRICS member and partner nations at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting being held under India’s 2026 chairship of the expanded grouping.
Among the key leaders attending the high-level meeting were Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, along with several other senior representatives from BRICS nations and partner countries.
The visiting dignitaries later joined EAM Jaishankar for an official group photograph.
Jaishankar is likely to chair the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting later in the day, where member countries are likely to exchange views on key regional and global developments.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Foreign Ministers and heads of delegations from member and partner nations will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the two-day engagement.
The meeting marks the first major ministerial-level event under India’s BRICS chairship and will likely help shape the agenda for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled later this year.
The MEA said discussions during the meeting are likely to focus on strengthening multilateral cooperation among member nations and advancing reforms in international governance structures amid changing geopolitical realities.
India recently unveiled the official logo and dedicated website for its BRICS 2026 chairship under the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’, reflecting New Delhi’s ‘Humanity First’ and people-centric approach highlighted by Prime Minister Modi during the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
This is the fourth time India is hosting a BRICS summit-level engagement, underlining its growing role within the grouping and among Global South nations.
