Rouse Avenue Court Reserves Decision on Supplementary Chargesheet in Land-for-Jobs Case

The Rouse Avenue Court Reserves Verdict on ED’s Supplementary Chargesheet Against Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, and others in the land-for-jobs case. Special Judge Vishal Gogne will announce the verdict on August 24. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed the chargesheet, accusing Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav of involvement in the alleged scheme.

The ED alleges that Lalu Prasad Yadav, during his tenure as Railway Minister, acquired land from people in exchange for providing them jobs. Investigating the case under money laundering charges, the agency has submitted a 100-page supplementary chargesheet along with 96 supporting documents. The chargesheet also names Lalan Chaudhary, Hazari Rai, Dharmendra Kumar, Akhileshwar Singh, Ravinder Kumar, the late Lal Babu Rai, Sonmatiya Devi, and Sanjay Rai.

In a related development, the CBI has already filed the final chargesheet, listing 78 people as accused. The CBI has identified 38 candidates and some officials as involved in the scheme. On March 6, the CBI filed the third supplementary chargesheet, naming Bhola Yadav, who served as Lalu Prasad Yadav’s secretary, as an accused. The CBI reportedly recovered evidence from Bhola Yadav’s computer, indicating his involvement in directing officials during the alleged scheme.

The CBI initially registered a case against Lalu Prasad Yadav and others, including members of his family, who also face accusations. The court has granted bail to several of these accused, including former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, RJD MP Misa Bharti, and Hema Yadav. The CBI continues to scrutinize other individuals, including Bhola Yadav.

This case, dating back to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister, involves allegations that he acquired land at significantly reduced prices in exchange for jobs in the railways. The ED and CBI have summoned both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav for extensive questioning. The alleged scam occurred between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Prasad Yadav held the position of Railway Minister in the UPA 1 government. During this period, several individuals were allegedly appointed to Group D posts in various sectors of Indian Railways in exchange for transferring their land to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family members and a related company, AK Infosystems Private Limited.
