Kolkata, Aug 25 – Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials concluded over 12 hours of search operations at the residence of Sandip Ghosh, former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, on Sunday.
The CBI officials, seen leaving Ghosh’s Beliaghata home around 8:50 p.m., carried piles of documents reportedly seized during the operation. The CBI remained tight-lipped about the findings.
Sources indicated that the CBI conducted a simultaneous interrogation of Ghosh during the search. A team of seven CBI officials, including women officers, arrived at Ghosh’s residence at 6:50 a.m. They waited about 90 minutes outside before gaining entry. During the wait, CBI officials tried unsuccessfully to reach Ghosh by phone and spoke with police officers stationed outside.
At 1:30 p.m., six additional CBI officials joined the raid. Parallel searches were also conducted at other locations. The demonstrator of the Forensic Medicine department, Debabish Shom, was taken to the CBI’s Nizam Palace office after an eight-hour search at his Kestopur home. It remains unclear whether he was arrested or detained for questioning.
Ghosh has been interrogated by the CBI’s special crime unit for nine consecutive days starting August 16, in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar. The CBI is investigating links between the rape and murder case and the financial irregularities at the medical college.
