The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a progress report to the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday regarding the financial irregularities case at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital.
After accepting the first report, Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj directed the CBI to submit another progress report by November 25. The case involves allegations against the college’s former Principal, Sandip Ghosh. Ghosh was initially arrested for financial irregularities and later on September 14, he was also arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the hospital last month.
The junior doctor allegedly became a victim because she knew details about the irregularities during Ghosh’s tenure. On September 2, the CBI’s economic offence wing took Ghosh and three others into custody. Ghosh faces charges for awarding contracts without proper approval, bypassing standard procedures, and selling biomedical waste, including organs from unidentified bodies.
On Tuesday morning, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) began search operations at the residences of Dr. Sudipto Roy, a four-time Trinamool Congress legislator and medical professional, as part of a parallel investigation into the financial irregularities case.
