Republic Day Celebrations: India’s Military Prowess, Rich Heritage On Display At Kartavya Path

Kartavya Path witnessed a grand celebration of India’s 76th Republic Day on Sunday. The parade showcased India’s military might and cultural diversity. Tanks, missiles, rocket launchers, warplanes, surveillance gadgets, and traditional art forms highlighted the event.

Marching contingents of the Indian defense forces and allied services took center stage. A contingent of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and their Military Band also participated. The Indonesian team included 152 members in the marching contingent and 190 in the military band.

The Indian Army displayed its T-90 Tanks (Bhishma), NAG Missile Systems, BMP-2 Sarath, BrahMos, Pinaka Rocket Systems, and Akash Weapon Systems. Vehicles like Bajrang, Airawat, and Chetak also featured prominently. The Mounted Column of the 61 Cavalry, led by Lt Ahaan Kumar, began the Army display.

President Droupadi Murmu led the celebrations, focusing on 75 years of the Constitution. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended as the chief guest. Both Presidents arrived in the traditional buggy, a practice revived in 2024 after 40 years.

The parade started with the unfurling of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute using 105-mm Light Field Guns. Parade Commander Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar led the procession, with Major General Sumit Mehta as Second-in-Command.

Over 300 cultural artists performed “Sare Jahan Se Achha” with traditional instruments like Shehnai, Nadaswaram, Dhol, and Ransingha. Mi-17 1V helicopters from the 129 Helicopter Unit showered flower petals. Group Captain Alok Ahlawat led the formation.

Honoring Bravery And Patriotism

The proud winners of gallantry awards saluted the President. Param Vir Chakra recipients Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, along with Ashok Chakra winner Lt Col Jas Ram Singh, received a heartfelt tribute.

Marching contingents from regiments such as The Jat Regiment, The Garhwal Rifles, and The Mahar Regiment also took part in the parade.

The grand event symbolized India’s military strength and vibrant cultural heritage while commemorating the platinum jubilee of the adoption of the Constitution.
