Renowned Humour Poet Surendra Sharma’s Satirical Works Celebrated In Delhi

A notable discussion on the satirical writings of renowned humour poet Surendra Sharma took place recently at the India International Centre in Delhi.

Organisers held the event to commemorate Sharma’s 80th birthday and celebrate his immense contribution to humour and satire in Hindi literature.

The event echoed the sentiment, ‘Humour brightens homes and nurtures happiness’.

Surendra Sharma has masterfully kept this spirit alive, making people laugh and reflect through his witty and insightful writings for many years.

Presence of Literary Luminaries

Distinguished guests, including noted poet and writer Dr Ashok Chakradhar, Padma Shri awardee Sheila Jhunjhunwala, scholar Vishwanath Tripathi, poet Vinay Vishwas, and senior Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi, graced the event.

Their presence underscored the deep respect for Sharma’s literary contributions.

Dr Ashok Chakradhar, speaking at the event, highlighted Sharma’s unique gift for blending humour with social critique.

Meanwhile, Padma Shri Jhunjhunwala lauded Sharma’s significant role in enriching Hindi literary tradition with humour and satire.

In a special moment during the gathering, Dr Ashok Chakradhar received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the social organisation Vipra Foundation, recognising his own contributions to literature.

The programme concluded with a ceremonial cake-cutting, celebrating not only Sharma’s milestone birthday but also the enduring spirit of humour in literature.

The occasion not only honoured Surendra Sharma but also reinforced the power of humour as a tool for both entertainment and social reflection in India’s rich literary heritage.
