Rohinton Tehemton Thanewala, a prominent figure in the legal fraternity, passed away recently, leaving an indelible mark on the legal community and the Parsi community of India. Born on September 16, 1958, into an esteemed Parsi family in Indore, Rohinton was celebrated for his professional excellence, humility, and warmth.
After completing his BSc at Holkar College and LLB at Christian College, Indore, Rohinton began his legal career in 1980 under the mentorship of the renowned advocate Harbans Singh Oberoi. His reputation as a “Gentleman Lawyer” grew quickly, with peers across the nation admiring his diligence, honesty, and commitment to justice.
Rohinton Thanewala’s contribution to law was unparalleled. Known for his exceptional integrity, he was respected for his fair and compassionate approach in the courtroom. His peers frequently praised his humility and his unwavering support for colleagues and clients. Despite his professional achievements, he remained a beloved mentor, sharing his legal knowledge with passion and sincerity.
Rohinton’s dedication to family was as remarkable as his career. Alongside his brother Gav, he cared for their parents with unwavering devotion. His deep connection with the Parsi community, particularly in Indore, earned him widespread respect. The Thanewala family remains a pillar of the dwindling Parsi population in India.
Rohinton’s interests extended beyond the courtroom. He explored astrology and religion with curiosity and brought joy to social gatherings with his warmth and humor. His untimely demise is a significant loss not only for Indore but for the Parsi community nationwide.
Mourners from across the country, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, attended his funeral, reflecting the profound impact of his life. Rohinton Thanewala’s legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
