On the solemn occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to the revered Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.
In his message, PM Modi underscored Vajpayee’s instrumental role in propelling India’s progress across diverse sectors and guiding the nation into the 21st century.
Expressing his sentiments on X, previously known as Twitter, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the profound impact of Vajpayee’s leadership on the nation, “I join the 140 crore people of India in paying homage to the remarkable Atal Ji on his Punya Tithi. India benefitted greatly from his leadership. He played a pivotal role in boosting our nation’s progress and in taking it to the 21st century in a wide range of sectors.”
Born in Gwalior in 1924, Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s enduring legacy spans decades. His association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) positioned him as a prominent figure and the face of the party. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the first non-Congress Prime Minister to complete a full term in office.
Vajpayee’s service as India’s Prime Minister extended over multiple terms. His tenure covered two significant periods, from May 16, 1996, to June 1, 1996, and later from March 19, 1998, to May 22, 2004.
Beyond his role as Prime Minister, Vajpayee also served as India’s External Affairs Minister under Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s cabinet from 1977 to 1979. The depth of his contributions to India’s governance and international relations remains noteworthy.
The nation mourned the loss of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on August 16, 2018, as he breathed his last at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. His passing marked the end of an era characterized by visionary leadership, strategic insight, and dedication to India’s progress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following his ascent to power in 2014, took a significant step to commemorate Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s contributions.
In recognition of his indelible impact, PM Modi declared Vajpayee’s birthday, December 25, as Good Governance Day.
This annual celebration pays homage to Vajpayee’s commitment to steering the nation towards excellence and inclusive growth.
As the nation reflects on the legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on this solemn occasion, his visionary leadership and enduring contributions remain a guiding light for India’s journey into the future.
