Mumbai, Aug 29: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday apologized for the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Rajkot Fort in Malvan. Shinde said he was willing to place his head at the Maratha warrior’s feet and apologize a hundred times.
Shinde urged the Opposition to avoid politicizing the issue. He asked them to work with the government to quickly erect a new statue. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is our god,” Shinde said. “I bow down and ask for forgiveness.”
Shinde confirmed that the Indian Navy requested the Rajkot Fort area be declared protected to allow for the new statue. The government has formed two committees. One will investigate the statue’s collapse. The other will oversee the creation and installation of a new statue, with input from IIT engineers, Navy officers, and experienced sculptors.
