‘Rath Yatra Embodies Humility, Collective Participation And Selfless Service’: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his best wishes to the nation on the occasion of Jagannath Rath Yatra, saying the festival showcases India’s deep-rooted spiritual wisdom and vibrant cultural legacy.

In his message on X, PM Modi noted that the traditions associated with the yatra have inspired generations by promoting humility, collective participation and selfless service.

Seeking the blessings of Mahaprabhu Jagannath, the Prime Minister wished every citizen good health, happiness, and prosperity. He also expressed hope that the festival would strengthen social harmony and inspire people to work together for the common good.

The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra began in Puri, Odisha, drawing lakhs of devotees from across the country to witness one of India’s most revered religious festivals.

The celebration holds special significance because it is the only time each year that Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra leave the sanctum of the Jagannath Temple and travel through the city to bless devotees.

The three deities were ceremonially placed on elaborately decorated wooden chariots before thousands of worshippers pulled them through the streets amid devotional songs, chants and traditional rituals.

As part of the centuries-old custom, the procession carries the deities to the Gundicha Temple, symbolising their annual visit to their aunt’s home.

The Rath Yatra represents compassion, inclusivity and the belief that Lord Jagannath reaches out to all devotees irrespective of social or cultural backgrounds.

Every year, the festival attracts pilgrims, saints, and visitors from India and around the world, reinforcing its place among the country’s most significant religious celebrations.

The festival also witnessed grand celebrations in Ahmedabad, where the annual Rath Yatra commenced from the historic Shree Jagannath Temple in Jamalpur.
