Uttar Pradesh has appointed a new acting Director General of Police (DGP), entrusting the role to senior IPS officer Rajiv Krishna of the 1991 batch.
He succeeds Prashant Kumar, who retired on 31 May 2025, becoming the fifth consecutive officer to hold the DGP position in an acting capacity.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s inner circle widely regards Rajiv Krishna, known for his sharp acumen and clean track record, as a trusted officer.
His recent success in overseeing a copy-free police recruitment examination has further strengthened his reputation for efficient and transparent administration.
Born on 26 June 1969 and originally from Noida, Krishna currently serves as Director of Vigilance and Chairman of the Police Recruitment Board.
His career has included multiple key postings, and he previously held the post of ADG in Agra before being promoted to Vigilance Director.
Rajiv comes from a family deeply rooted in civil service, with more than six officers in the household.
His wife, an IRS officer, is currently posted as Deputy Secretary in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in Noida.
Known for his interest in technology-driven policing, Rajiv Krishna has led major initiatives to combat cybercrime.
He has introduced comprehensive training programmes for police personnel and launched public awareness campaigns to address the rising threat of online fraud and data breaches.
His leadership in these areas will likely drive further modernisation within the Uttar Pradesh Police.
