Rajasthan MLA Manoj Kumar Loses Rs 90,000 In Cyber Crime, Files Police Complaint

Rajasthan MLA Manoj Kumar has reported a cybercrime involving the theft of Rs 90,000 from his bank account, leading him to file a police complaint.

Kumar discovered the theft only after updating his passbook at the bank on Wednesday. He was stune to find two unauthorize transactions one on August 4 and another on August 20 totaling Rs 90,000.

“Upon updating his passbook, the MLA noticed two withdrawals from his account that he had not authorized,” said Udaipur Singh, ASI. “The first transaction occurred on August 4 and the second on August 21.”

Realizing he had been duped, Kumar promptly reported the issue to the Jyoti Nagar police station.

The police have launched an investigation to track down the perpetrator of this cybercrime. The authorities are working to identify the beneficiary of the stolen funds and have urged victims to report cyber fraud incidents immediately.

Kumar, who won the Assembly elections from Sadulpur in 2023 on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket, had previously switched allegiances to the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) alongside BSP MLA Jaswant Singh Gurjar. The two MLAs joined Shiv Sena in Mumbai in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

This incident comes amidst heightened efforts by Rajasthan Police’s Cyber Branch, which uncovered a Jamtara-like cyber hub in Mewat and made several arrests during ‘Operation Anti-Virus’ on June 18.

However, the Cyber Security Bureau emphasizes the critical importance of immediate action in reporting cyber fraud. Prompt reporting within the “golden hour”—the crucial period immediately after realizing or suspecting fraud—can significantly improve the chances of freezing the stolen funds in the perpetrator’s accounts. Victims advise to report such incidents by calling 1930 or visiting the cybercrime.gov.in portal.
