Vice President C P Radhakrishnan expressed deep sorrow on Monday over the catastrophic fire at a chemical manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, which claimed seven lives.
Authorities reported that two additional individuals were feared trapped within the premises.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured,” Radhakrishnan stated on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences. The Prime Minister’s Office quoted him: “The fire mishap in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, is tragic and deeply saddening. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma shared his anguish on social media. “The news of lives lost due to a fire at a factory in Khushkheda Industrial Area, Bhiwadi, is deeply distressing. I have instructed the district administration to undertake immediate relief and rescue operations. I pray for the departed souls’ peace and the rapid recovery of those hurt,” he wrote.
Officials confirmed that around 25 workers were present at the time of the blaze, which erupted at approximately 9:30 AM at Plot No. G-1-118, Khushkheda Karauli Industrial Area.
Reports suggest the fire ignited suddenly and spread swiftly, consuming large sections of the factory within minutes.
The RIICO Fire Brigade received notification from the police control room around 9:22 AM, triggering an urgent response.
Fire tenders from Khushkheda and Bhiwadi stations arrived promptly. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly ninety minutes before gaining control.
Additional District Magistrate Sumita Mishra noted that the fire was initially discovered during routine police patrolling.
Rescue efforts commenced immediately. Police, fire, medical, and administrative teams swiftly reached the site and secured the area to facilitate relief.
Several charred bodies were recovered, while injured workers were transported to nearby hospitals.
The cause of the fire remains unconfirmed. Tijara Deputy Superintendent of Police Shivraj Singh leads the preliminary investigation, supported by senior district officials.
A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause and review safety compliance.
The tragic incident has shocked the industrial region and raised urgent questions about workplace safety standards.
